Blind Contour Drawing

28 Aug

Funny how disconnected we are when out of our frame of reference.  I imagine I would feel as disoriented in a foreign land with no language skills.  It was fun to be a foreigner in the paper bag.  Drawing without reference or the handy use of vision is harder than I thought it would be.  Getting to know my table mates drawing their images was intimidating as well…the whole eye contact thing, but we bonded somehow through this experience, or at least I think so.  Connected again to our eyes and our brains allowed us to draw again attempting to draw paper bags in various configurations.  Learning about use of line and weight was very helpful.  Darker emphasis on outside of the drawing gives any piece a more completed feel.  Now I have to do a blind contour self-portrait with a mirror and then a single-line contour drawing of self with mirror.  Picasso here I come!

I actually like the Picasso-esque version of the blind contour drawing.  I may frame it.

Oh, how honest the mirror!
